A Place for my Geeky Side

Maybe It’s For the Best

October 16th, 2022

I haven’t read or collected comic books seriously for decades, I walked away from it for the last time, I think around 2013, when they stopped being fun and that predated the modern woke mess that we’re facing. However, I occasionally do watch a video or two on YouTube, I think because I was interested in seeing just how terrible the whole thing is.

Recently, it’s started to be suggested that Warner-Discovery CEO David Zaslav might just shut down DC Comics entirely and honestly, I think that might be a good idea, at least for a while. So let’s talk about it.

This is part of a much larger conversation, where people are getting sick and tired of what comics are these days and that is directly to blame on the woke crap that both Marvel and DC are pushing. When you have entire comic books that talk about using people’s pronouns, you’ve got a serious problem. Nobody wants to read it and their sales figures prove it. That’s why DC, as well as most of Warner, has been failing for years. They don’t know how to write decent stories and that’s what people want to read. Granted, there are some people who just buy it because they’ve been buying it for a long time and I think that’s absolutely stupid, but if everyone who wasn’t enjoying their current titles simply kept their money in their wallet, DC would be out of business in a month.

That’s really where I think it’s a good idea to shut them down until someone learns a lesson. DC Comics knows it’s failing, they just can’t figure out why. They’re rebooting the entire universe in January, but instead of figuring out what caused the current version to die, they’re just going to double down on the same woke crap, with the same woke creative teams, because they can’t afford to get anyone else.

Maybe it’s time to just call it a day, fire the entire creative team at DC Comics, perhaps license out some of the existing successful characters to people who actually care and stop with comics for a decade or so. After all, comics are, at best, a loss leader these days, maybe we just don’t need them anymore. They’re a product of a bygone era. I know that some people still like the format, but I don’t know that the format even works in the modern world anymore.

Perhaps in a decade or so, whoever winds up owning DC can look at the concept, once the woke nonsense has run its course and once enough time has passed to eliminate any emotional attachment, and decide what they should do next. I really think the monthly floppy era is over and has been for a long time. It’s only going because that’s how it’s always been. That’s not a good enough reason. Come up with something new. I’ve got plenty of ideas, but I’m sure nobody currently reading will like them. You’ve got decades of inertia to overcome and we’re seeing how bad things have gotten just doing the same old thing. It’s time for a change.

Also, while I’m at it, I’ve been suggesting to people who are just hate-reading comics to knock it off. Stop giving these people your money. You know you hate this stuff, why are you wasting your money? Some people are starting to listen, even though it wasn’t my suggestion that did it, but not enough. The only way to change the system is to stop paying people. Here’s a video I saw that shows the problems and the reasons people are just giving up. Give it a look.

So, do you have any ideas? It’s not going to change anything, I don’t think anything can change right now, but for the future, if you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments.
