Is Everyone Stupid Now?

April 3rd, 2024

It’s hard to find anyone but idiots out in the world right now. I just ordered a brand new miter saw off of Amazon. It wasn’t cheap, although it was on sale. It also wasn’t ludicrously expensive, to be fair. I had looked at higher end saws, like the Bosch, and it doesn’t come with the laser that I wanted. Therefore, I had tried to buy it at Lowes but they were out of stock. I got on Amazon, I paid for it, I waited and when I received it, they had sent the wrong saw. It wasn’t even close.

Now they want to argue with me about the return. Screw these people!

I decided to get myself a new miter saw a week or so ago. I’d been limping by with a saw that didn’t fit my needs, so I ran to Lowes to look around and settled on a Metabo saw that did what I wanted it to do. I knew my criteria, which included a 12″ blade, a front-facing slider mechanism so I could push it back against the wall, and a laser. It was one of the only saws that I could find that had all of those things.

I walked into Lowes, ready to buy and they were out of stock. No problem. I hopped online to see what other stores in the area had them and they were all out of stock. It was on sale, so I understood the short stock, but on Amazon, they had the same saw at the same price with free shipping so I bought it.

A couple days later, it arrived. It actually came in a Lowes box from about 100 miles away. Whatever, I don’t care where it comes from, I care that I was getting it at all. I opened the box and there was an immediate problem though.

They sent the wrong saw. It was a much less expensive saw that had none of the features that I needed. It wasn’t even a slider. I immediately returned it. Wrong item sent. Problem solved, right? I had no option to be sent the right item, I could just get my money back. Fine. Whatever.

A couple of days passed, while Amazon said “they’ll send you the shipping materials within 5 days”. It had come FedEx. I couldn’t just take it back to an Amazon drop off. It’s heavy but I could manage that, but no, I had to wait.

I started getting e-mails from the shipper. Keep in mind, I had ordered from what I thought was the official Metabo store. Instead, I got some guy sending me e-mail. He said he’d give me a 50% refund if I just kept the saw. Of course I’m not going to do that because it’s not what I ordered. It’s not what I want. It’s entirely useless to me, even for free. I already have a saw that does everything that the saw I received does. That’s why I’m upgrading!

Therefore, I said no. I said that if he wanted to send me the saw that I actually ordered and pick up this one, I was fine with that. It was their mistake after all. I had absolutely nothing to do with it. That’s fair, right? Their screw-up, their responsibility to fix it?

I get a second e-mail complaining that it’s expensive to ship these things. Too bad. Your mistake, not mine. I don’t care how much it costs you, if you didn’t want to pay the extra money, you shouldn’t have screwed up in the first place. It’s not like I changed my mind and am trying to return it for a refund. They screwed up. Fix it!

I’m just waiting for round 3 to commence, where I either get what I ordered or I get the return paperwork and my money back. I’m fine with either one at this point. Meanwhile, I’m sitting here with a project on hold because I needed the added capacity and features of the new saw. This has kind of soured me on Metabo and I’m not even sure it’s them. It might just be some jackass on Amazon using their name and buying things at Lowes. I have no clue. It doesn’t matter. I might call Metabo (formerly Hitachi) and see if this guy is legit. I did leave a 1-star rating on the product and said that Metabo really ought to try to make this right, but for all I know, they’ll never see it. I’ll also complain to Amazon if this idiot doesn’t fix this within the timeframe, which at this point, he has until Friday. I’ll probably be gracious and give him until Monday, but after that, I’m going to stop being nice.

Why are there so many idiots? I’d really like to know!
