Why Do Franchises Run Out of Steam?

November 17th, 2021

I’ve noticed this a lot lately and in discussions with people, it’s become pretty clear that movie franchises, they tend to completely fall apart by the time that the series gets to 3-4 movies. Some don’t even make it that far.

So why is that? Why do so many of the most popular intellectual properties completely crap out so fast? Let’s take a look.

Can We Just Stop?

October 23rd, 2021

I mean seriously, Hollywood, can we just stop doing this woke crap? Because this year alone, I’ve walked away from three shows (more or less) that suddenly, out of the blue, started marching around with far-left ideologies and I’m really tired of it.

Can you please just knock it off?

Movie Review: Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021)

September 25th, 2021

Now I’ll be honest, I don’t see a lot of movies these days, both because I have zero interest in ever going to a theater but also because most things out there just don’t appeal to me anymore. That said, I did catch Prisoners of the Ghostland, mostly because it’s got Nic Cage in it and he’s just so entertaining on his own that it makes up for even the worst movies that he’s been in.

And he’s been in a lot of really bad movies.

So how did this one fare? Let’s take a look.

Prodigal Son Goes into Woke Overload

May 19th, 2021

There are some shows that I don’t even start watching until they finish their season so I can binge the whole thing. One of those, until very recently, was Prodigal Son. The first season was excellent, although certainly not perfect and most things with Michael Sheen, I tend to like.

So, now that it finished up it’s abbreviated second season at episode 13, I sat down to watch it last night and honestly, I don’t know that I will continue. Rabid woke culture strikes again.

Where I Show I Was Right About Kong

April 7th, 2021

So I finally sat down and watched this thing, and honestly, we were all putting it off as long as we could. My daughters wanted to watch it and less than a third of the way through, both of them got up and left.

That ought to tell you something. They are in the target demographic and they both got bored.

So let’s look at what went wrong and why I hope Toho never lets Legendary make a Godzilla movie again.

Let’s Make a Prediction About Kong

April 1st, 2021

Next week, as I write this, Godzilla vs. Kong is coming out to a limited theatrical run and on HBO Max. I have a personal prediction that I’m going to make because all of the Legendary Monsterverse movies have been sub-standard in my opinion. Keep in mind this is only my opinion and I’m entitled to it.

I think it’s going to suck.

9 Shows Worth Watching?

March 7th, 2021

So, WhatCulture did a video that I caught on 9 shows that everyone should watch. Except most of them just aren’t worth watching, or weren’t back in the day. So here’s my quick look at all of their 9 shows and why even though I saw most of them, I either dropped them or didn’t care when they got canned. There are very few exceptions to this rule.

Review What You Saw!

February 22nd, 2021

I watch a fair number of YouTube movie reviewers and this seems to be an issue with a lot of them. They will watch a movie and then review the movie they wished they’d seen, not the movie they actually sat through. They had expectations that we not what the director intended. Then they complain that the product wasn’t up to what they wished for. That’s not how this works, sorry. So today, I’m going to talk about that, along with look at the latest place I’ve seen this happen, Willy’s Wonderland.

Movie Review: Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

December 27th, 2020

Back in 2017, I declared that Wonder Woman was the best movie that had come out of the DC Cinematic Universe, which was really damning with faint praise. It was good, but not great. I didn’t expect much better with the new movie and as the trailers started to come out, I started to get a really, really bad feeling about the end product. It just looked like a disjointed mess, especially the scenes with Wonder Woman “riding the lightning”.

It’s really a shame that I was right about it all along.

Good vs. Bad Reboots

December 19th, 2020

Recently, a couple of reboots have appeared on the television landscape, some good, some bad. Now keep in mind, I am not a fan of reboots, reimaginings or any of that in general. I think Hollywood needs to be original, not just produce half-assed copies trying to relive past glories, but that’s not the world we live in. So let’s take a look at the good and the bad of late.
