A Place for my Geeky Side

The Tale of a Book, Week 2

December 3rd, 2021

We’re back for another weekly wrap-up and things went very well this week. Overall, I got through about 33k words and nearly 120 pages and an awful lot of chapters. I’m not even sure how many because I didn’t pay attention to where I started. So far, I’m completely satisfied.

So let’s break it down.

If you remember from last week, I had a couple of  goals that I wanted to hit right up front, I wanted to get to 50k by the end of the month, not that it was essential but it was one more thing to push for and that’s how I’m productive. So let’s go see how I did.

Monday, 11/29 – Grand total for the day is 6496 words and 24 pages. That brings the book to over 44k and there won’t be a problem hitting my 50k tomorrow. That means I should cross the 200 page mark by Wednesday, with an estimated total page count around 435 for the finished book. For just starting the official second week, that’s not half bad.

Tuesday, 11-30 – 6643 words today, bringing me to 51k overall and over my goal. That puts me at 192 pages and it’ll be simple to hit 200 tomorrow as I’d hoped. I generally put in 20-25 pages every single day. So far, so good. I quit right in the middle of an action scene and I really want to go on but I’m forcing myself to wait until tomorrow when I have more time and have given it some consideration. Good day overall.

Wednesday, 12/1 – It was a bit of a light day today as I ran into some other things that I had to take care of but I still hit all of my goals. My word count for the day was 5594 and that still got me significantly past the 55k overall goal that I’d set. I’m now at 21 pages for the day and 211 pages overall and I can live with it. I’ll try to make up for that tomorrow.

Thursday, 12/2 – I clocked in with 7600 words today, bringing my grand total to 64,151. By tomorrow, I’m shooting to exceed 70k which won’t be a problem. That means that at the moment, I’m sitting at 241 pages overall and have moved into chapter 16. I’m figuring that by the end of next week, I’ll be sitting around 105k and about 375 pages and I’ll be able to wrap the book by Wednesday or Thursday the week thereafter. That’s not half bad.

Friday, 12/3 – I got there. Wound up at 70,449 words overall, 6298 for the day. I probably could have done more but I reached a pivotal point and decided to leave further developments for Monday. That puts me at 265 pages so far which puts me at about 119 pages for the week, which is an average of 24 pages a day, more or less. I’m happy with that.

Next week, we’ll move from the second half of chapter 17, hopefully through chapter 24 by next Friday. If I can go farther, I will. It’s actually really easy now to flow through 6k minimum and I’m starting to figure out some of the tiny details that I never really understood.

In fact, I stumbled through the solution to a minor problem on Friday, one where I needed a minor side character to do a certain thing but I couldn’t figure out why it happened. It wasn’t really important and it didn’t have a huge impact on the overall story but it bugged me. Then, while I was writing, I realized that I’d solved the problem perfectly without even realizing it. I love it when that happens. Now, it makes wrapping up the side-story ever so simple and satisfying. It explains a lot of the finale.

Therefore, I’ll sign off for the week and will be back next week, cranking out more of the book. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll see you then.
