The cycle continues, sadly. Once it became clear that I wasn’t going to get the miter saw that I wanted, since they are out of stock at every store within a 100+ mile radius, I started looking for other options. I know what I need. I need a 12″ saw, I need a short-throw sliding mechanism so it can be pushed against the wall in my existing miter saw station and I know I want either a laser or an LED shadow. Three simple things. What could be easier?
It never works out that way though, does it?
So I go to a woodworking forum and ask. What other saws can I look into, since apparently, Metabo let me down. Simple question, right? Get a list of other saws to consider? Simple?
Not remotely. Not only can nobody actually answer the question asked, half of them are arguing with me!
Keep the free saw! I don’t want the free saw. I’m still trying to get Metabo to take it back! They already refunded my money, take the saw! Why do I not want the saw? Because I bought the damn thing specifically for a project that requires that I be able to cut repeatable 17″ parts. The capacity of the saw I ordered was 18″. The capacity of the saw I received was 12″. It won’t work. My existing 10″ slider only gives me a 15.5″ capacity, also not enough. That’s why I bought it! If I get stuck with this saw, I’m going to donate it to the local woodworking group. They can figure out what to do with it.
I had more than one tell me that if I couldn’t do what I wanted to do with the tools that I had, that I should give up on the project and do something else. These are morons.
I’ve had a couple of people say “get a radial arm saw!” I don’t want a radial arm saw. I had one. I loaned it to my uncle about 30 years ago. It’s still sitting in his garage and he died 2 years ago. If I wanted one, I’d just get mine back.
Still more of them keep arguing that Metabo ought to give me the saw that I ordered. No shit, sherlock. They just won’t do it. They say “just order a new one from Amazon!” Sorry, that ship has sailed. I am not going to give them another chance to shaft me. It’s one thing if I can walk into a Lowes, pay them money and walk out with a saw under my arm. It’s another if I have to hope they get it right the second time. Not going to happen. I’m not the unreasonable one here.
I don’t know why I bother. I did find another saw that might fit my needs, it’s just 3x more expensive than the one I ordered. Is that out of the question? No. Is it what I want? Also no. This honestly shouldn’t be that difficult for a professional company to just do what they were paid to do.
Sadly, especially in the modern world, it seems like it is.
