There are two companies that have been sending us postcards inviting us to their events forever. These are events that we haven’t been to in over a decade and will probably never go back to, yet month after month, we get these postcards asking us to come back.
Guys, it’s time to give up.The first place is a bird expo that we went to twice. The first time was to see what it was like and the second, because my oldest daughter wanted a bird. Granted, we did buy a bird there, but thereafter we never went back again and it’s been at least a decade. I just got another one of their ads this week.
The second is a stamp and coin expo that my wife and I went to a couple of times right after we were married, but they never had anything worthwhile so we stopped going. That was more than 20 years ago. We’re still getting their mailers. I just tossed out one today.
Now I don’t really care, it’s just junk mail and goes straight into the recycle bin without even being looked at, I just have to ask myself why they are still begging us to show up, why they are still wasting money sending out mailers, if it’s clear we have no interest. In both cases, these shows are too far away to reasonably go to anyhow. The bird show is probably 2 hours away and the stamp and coin show is more than 3 hours away, one way. Neither of them are worth attending anyhow, they are especially not worth wasting a tank of gas to get to. I have local bird farms and pet stores if I want to buy birds or bird supplies. I have the Internet if I want to buy stamps. I can do it from the comfort of my home or with a very short drive. What makes them think I’m going to commute to go to a show that I haven’t bothered with in more than 10 years? Or more than 20 years? That’s the one that really surprises me because they want you to bring the postcard so they know you’re still interested. Have they not noticed the distinct lack of postcards that we’ve brought to the show in the past 2 decades? Pick up the clue phone already!
