This has happened on more than a dozen occasions and I just don’t get it. Why is it that when you express an opinion, especially on a very pointless subject, there are people out there who fall all over themselves to demand that your opinion must be wrong because it differs from theirs.
Are these people insane? And this happens all the time. I mean, just today, on the very same day, three entirely separate people in three entirely separate conversations, on three entirely separate platforms, all tried to rip me a new one because I said I didn’t like Facebook. What the hell? And I certainly didn’t denigrate them or tell them they were stupid because they used it, in fact, I went out of my way to say that, while I thought the site didn’t work for me, it didn’t provide what I wanted out of it, certainly other people were welcome to their opinions and maybe it worked better for them.
But no, it’s like disagreeing is a mortal sin or something.
And it happens all the time! If you say you don’t care for a TV series someone else likes, they freak the hell out and start screaming at you like you took a crap on their dog. If you don’t like the same music they like, they explode into a ridiculous rage. And don’t say you don’t like the same genre of games because wow, you deserve to be strung up for that!
Frankly, I’ve just given up responding. Once they have their little tizzy and it becomes obvious that you’re not talking to a rational person, I just roll my eyes and go find something else to do. There is no way to claim victory against the emotionally deluded. In fact, as War Games taught us, the only winning move is not to play.
