I guess my collecting goes in cycles. I didn’t realize until a day or two ago that I’ve kind of wandered away from collecting stamps, until I got an e-mail from Delcampe saying they hadn’t seen me for a while and wanted to know what was wrong. Well, nothing was wrong, stamp collecting just faded from my radar for a while. It wasn’t because I disliked it, I wasn’t tired of it, I just… lost focus and interest.
And that’s not really a bad thing, I don’t think.
I went back and looked and I was ordering things off Delcampe and other online sites pretty regularly through maybe the middle of 2013. Then I stopped. I don’t know why I stopped, I don’t remember any reason for stopping, I don’t recall being bored with collecting stamps, I just didn’t do it anymore. In fact, I still have a pile of stamps that need to be put away that I had entirely forgotten about until now. And while doing that, it made me want to get right back into it. Now I have a big order I’m about to place with a new online dealer that someone suggested to me and I’m looking forward to filling all of those holes in my albums!
So why did I stop? I haven’t the slightest idea. I just did. In fact, looking back, I haven’t really been involved in much collecting of any kind for about a year. I get a few things here and there, I started a new Funko collection at Wondercon, yet haven’t bought a single new figure since then, otherwise… no collecting for me and I really have no clue why that is. But now, I want to get back into it and I feel that I’ve had a palate cleanser and the opportunity to look at it again with semi-fresh eyes.
So what about you? Do you start and stop collecting things are irregular intervals or do you just collect the same things for years on end?
