Oh look, I read another book. It’s really kind of strange how that happens, I went for months and months not having time to read and, truth be told, I didn’t miss it. But then I picked up a book again and now I want to read a lot. I can’t say I understand it but I’m not at all sad that it happened.
This time I take a look at Destroyer, the second in the series of time travel adventures by Brett Battles. I reviewed the first book in the series here and really loved it. So will this be as good as the first? Let’s find out.

I’m not the biggest fan of time travel stories, especially badly done time travel stories. That doesn’t mean it can’t be done right, but far too often it is done very, very wrong. I think Legends of Tomorrow is one such example, where they haven’t set up any ground rules, then they keep throwing around reasons why they can’t do what clearly and obviously they ought to be able to, because… reasons. Warning, spoilers ahead.

I just stumbled onto this book through a writing podcast and thought it sounded like an interesting idea so I gave it a shot. I’m not the biggest fan of time travel stories, they tend to either be a bit ridiculous or way too overly complicated. I guess that’s a bit silly because I used to be a huge fan of Simon Hawke’s Time Wars books back in the mid 80s, so what the heck do I know?
But anyhow, I figured what the heck, I’m running low on books anyhow and I’m really glad that I did. So let’s take a look at Rewinder and see if it’s a good… time.

Instead of doing a weekly breakdown of all of the shows I’ve watched, for which I really had no time to accomplish, I’ve decided to take selected shows and give season-long reviews. It won’t be for every show, particularly long-running series, but for new shows or those that I feel I have to say, I think it’s the best way that I can keep reviewing TV without spending 12 hours a week writing it up.
This time out, I take a look at Syfy’s fledgling series 12 Monkeys, based very loosely on the 1995 movie of the same name. The movie was a critical and financial success, can the series be just as good? Let’s take a look.

I hate time travel in science fiction stories, I really do, but apparently, lots of people like it. I initially started off having no time travel available at all, but people started suggesting the Star Trek method, slingshotting around the sun and all that nonsense. I resisted, saying it doesn’t work that way, but over time, especially after I introduced fold drive, I could no longer deny people going back in time.
Therefore, that’s what I’ll look at in this edition of Building a Better World Part 7.
