Of the two new sci-fi series on Syfy last year, Dark Matter and Killjoys, I’ll admit that I liked Dark Matter more in the first season. But to be honest, both series changed dramatically in their second seasons and my views have changed a bit. So how did Dark Matter stand up this year? Read on and find out.

There are some good things about Killjoys and some not so good things. I thought the first season, which focused on this team of bounty hunters, was pretty well done. Not perfect, but it had an interesting idea and I thought they carried it out decently.
But as they moved into the second season, I admit I got a little lost because the series seemed a bit unfocused. So let’s see what happened as I take a look at the second season of Killjoys.

I noticed something about this series. Last year, my wife and I burned through Daredevil in a couple of nights, we couldn’t wait to get to the next episode, but this year, not so much. We watched the first couple, then… we didn’t. We’d go days between watching one. Sometimes a week. Sometimes more. It wasn’t that the show was bad, there just wasn’t the drive to get through it this year. I don’t know what that means, or if it means anything, maybe we’ve just been there, done that, but it is an observation I made.
But that said, let’s get into season two of Daredevil!

As I mentioned at the end of my review of the first season of Aldnoah.Zero, the main character was shot in the head and knowing the Japanese, he just might be dead. While they didn’t actually do that, I wouldn’t have been surprised, but the war continues between the embattled people of Earth and the technologically superior Vers Empire from Mars. Political aspirations rise and fall as humans fight for their very existence.
Who will survive? Let’s take a look.

The Last Ship was somewhat of a surprise last year, after all, it had just about everything going against it. It had Michael Bay involved, at least on paper, so explosions and shallow characters and minimal plot were to be expected, and most politically-driven shows have left a lot to be desired in my opinion, but it actually turned out to be one of the better shows last year and I was really happy when I heard that it was getting a second season. Did it continue the high standards that it achieved last year? Or did we find out that lightning can only strike once? Let’s see.

I’ll be honest, I pretty much hated the first season of Helix. It had potential, it was essentially announced as a single-season event, much like Under the Dome, but like Under the Dome, it turned into an ongoing series without any actual meat to the story.
I waffled about watching the second season, there were some plot threads that I thought might be interesting and so, unlike Under the Dome, I gave Helix season 2 a shot.
Wow, did I make a mistake.

I’m keeping this separate from my regular TV Thursday offerings because the Almighty Johnsons isn’t actually airing anywhere, it’s a finished series in New Zealand and I never followed it closely enough on Syfy to see if they showed all three seasons in the U.S. I was really impressed with the first season and was excited to jump into the second but I just never had the chance, there was always too much to see and too little time to spend, but now that most regular TV has had a hiatus, I can go back and dig through my pile of TV shows.
So here’s my look at the second season of The Almighty Johnsons.
