About Me- Title

So you want to know about me, huh?  Well, I’m not going to go into any boring details since that’s not why you’re here.  I will, however, give you a quick background on the sorts of topics I plan on covering here on the Corner.  This is what I’ve done, in general, in my long and semi-illustrious geeky life.

Action Figures:  I’ve been a collector of action figures for many, many years, at least since the late 70s/early 80s.  I started off with Transformers and Star Wars and moved on from there, picking up a wide variety of figures from shows, movies, comics and games that I enjoyed.  I have never been an action figure completist, I buy what I want and I ignore the rest.  I also never, ever open my figures for display, they all remain safely mint in package.  For some reason, this tends to piss off a lot of my fellow collectors.

Books:  I am an avid reader, mostly of science fiction, although I do delve into some mystery, along with other more boring topics.  It takes a lot to make me read a fantasy book, I actively detest books about magic.

Comics:  I’ve been reading comics since X-Men #90 in 1974, but to be honest, I just don’t have as much time to read them as I wish.  In fact, I tend to let them pile up until I have a decent run, then make time to read through ten or so issues at once.  That means that when I review comics, I tend to do an entire maxi-series or a long run of issues

Gaming:  I’ve been an avid gamer for a very long time as well, also starting in 1974.  That seems to have been a seminal year for a lot of the more geeky things in my life.  I’ve done extensive tabletop roleplaying, video game playing and board gaming, although today, I do a lot more board gaming than anything else, at least in a group setting.

Movies:  I love movies, I buy a ton of them on DVD/Bluray.  I have over 2000 commercial DVD/Blurays at present and own many, many thousands of movies non-commercially and digitally as well, mostly because they haven’t been released.  One thing about me, I never go to the theater.  I see no point in it.  I’m patient, I can wait until the DVD is released, so any reviews I do of movies are usually 2-3 months behind.  Oh well.

Stamps:  I’ve collected stamps for a long, long time, it was perhaps the first thing I ever collected as a child.  I have done it on and off my entire life, starting with U.S. stamps, mostly because it was the easiest to acquire as a child.  After more than 35 years of collecting, I realized that I was running out of things to get that didn’t cost an arm and a leg so I branched out into China and Australia as new collecting interests.  I also collect a few topics:  dogs, dinosaurs, cheetahs, parrots and I used to collect rabbits on stamps although I no longer actively do.  I suppose I’m a bit odd in my collecting methods, I collect pre-1900 used stamps and post-1900 mint never hinged stamps.  My topical collection, I pay no attention to used vs. mint, I’m after subject matter.

Television:  I watch a lot of television these days, which is strange because I never used to.  I have a truly massive collection of modern and classic TV programs, anime, American cartoons, etc.  I tend to buy season boxed sets of most shows I enjoy, which tend to be science fiction and oddball detective dramas.

If there’s anything else geek-related that you want to know about me, please leave a comment below.  I expect this to be updated from time to time as I think of more weird nerdy crap that I do.  Thanks for reading.

I do not see Religion listed here which is good because I do not like religion. However I do like to discuss, reality, our origin and how we can as a species stop our degeneration into the one that destroyed this planet we perceive ourselves to be living on. WE have far too much power now to be able to use properly in our current stage of maturity in terms of ethics and morals. Religion use to use the boogie man of God and eternal punishment to force people to do what the consensus at the time held to be moral and ethical, but evil men quickly realized the power in controlling that institution and did so making it one of the ways along with money and military might to solidify that control of the masses.
The biggest issue is that because men all have different perceptions of what is right, they fight over it, instead of cooperating to discover what is the best for all concerned on our planet.

This isn’t where I talk about religion, that’s my other blog at http://bitchspot.jadedragononline.com This is where I talk about geeky stuff. If you’re more interested in talking about religion and politics, that’s probably a place you want to check out.
