There are reasons I hate sitcoms. I haven’t enjoyed one since my childhood, back in the days of Gilligan’s Island and the like. The problem is, none of it is funny. They aren’t aimed at me, they are aimed at kids at the low end of the 18-49 demographic. I’m not even in that demographic anymore. But my wife wanted to take a look at Ghosted, a supernatural, semi-MIB sitcom that popped up a couple of months ago. Let’s be honest, the chances that it would be any good were slim, and spoilers, it really kind of sucks.
But let’s take a look anyhow, shall we?

This is really directed at a specific woodworking forum that I frequent, but someone started a thread about members and contributors, people who pay a certain amount of money per year to keep the site running and I’m totally fine with that, at least until the thread turned nasty and contributors started bad-mouthing anyone who wasn’t forking over the cash. So I have to ask you, what do I get out of donating to the site?

Stumbled into the recently released Agatha Christie’s Crooked House and as much as I usually like classical mystery movies, this one had some issues. The problem is, I don’t know that the issues are actually the fault of the film, which was competently done and decently acted, but when you have a movie based on a novel that was foundational to much of modern mystery writing, it’s hard to really do the movie “by the book” and keep anything mysterious. So here’s my look at Crooked House and why, I think, it’s damn hard to do Agatha Christie right anymore.

There are some Marvel series that are really good and some that are really bad. I’ve talked about some of the bad in recent weeks, this time I want to talk about one that was surprisingly decent, although it certainly had its issues and could have been better, but for what it was, it wasn’t half bad. That series, of course, is The Gifted, which aired for 13 episodes on FOX.

This might be one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, if you can call it a movie at all. Because this independent flick makes no sense whatsoever, it’s just a bunch of unconnected scenes strung together without anything that can charitably be called a plot between them.
Killer animal movies might be all the rage right now, after all Syfy lives off of them, but sometimes, you have to scratch your head and wonder what the hell were they thinking.
And maybe they weren’t.

In general, I am not a fan of these ridiculous natural disaster movies but my wife is, if for no other reason than to laugh at them. I find them generally a complete waste of time and Geostorm is exactly why this is so. They are absurd, take ludicrous liberties, often come attached to a leftist message that they beat you over the head with and the acting is generally terrible, even if they get otherwise good actors, there is very little they can do with what they’re given. And yes, Geostorm sucked rancid donkey balls. Here’s why!

With so many Marvel shows on today, I think we’ve gone into terminal overload. Most of them started out good, but now, more and more often, they’re just bad. Because it’s just Marvel properties being thrown at the screen without any quality control. It’s like DC does with their movies. They give someone money and the right to make a show and no one is watching over their shoulder to see if what’s being done is actually worth doing. This, unfortunately, is one show that was just terrible. So let’s look at Marvel’s Runaways and see what went horribly, horribly wrong.

This is something that I’ve noticed in a few places, but over the holidays, it got really obnoxious, to the point that I just had to talk about it. Now there’s one podcast that I’ve listened to off-and-on for a while now that’s a let’s-play RPG podcast and for what it is, I enjoy it. But recently, they’ve decided to shove their politics into the podcast and that’s making me reconsider my decision to keep listening at all.

There is a ton of science fiction on TV anymore, that and superhero shows, which is both a really good thing and a really bad thing. With every network trying to flood the airwaves with whatever is hot, sometimes it isn’t the best shows that make it in front of viewers. Now I liked Travelers last year, but as with so many, the second season is the real test and as with so many, I think this show has lost its way. Why? I guess you’ll have to read on.
